Damon K. Jones for VP of Westchester COBA

I would like to take this time to announce my acceptance of my nomination for position of Vice Presidentof the Corrections Officers Benevolent Association (COBA).  I am Officer Damon K. Jones.I've been employed at the Westchester County Department of Correctionsfor the past 18 years. Since 1990, I have had the opportunity to be stationed in all Corrections areas including the old Female Unit.  My current post bid is in the Penitentiary.  Since 1996, I have served as a Union Delegate(with one term break in service); and have been an active member of the following committees:
·         Labor  Management
·         Contract Negotiations
·         Welfare Fund
I also actively participate in local, regional and national Law Enforcement organizations such as
·         The American Correctional Association
·         The American Jail Association and
·          The National Black Police Association where I serve as the Executive Directorof
the Westchester Chapter and a National Board Member.
Over the years, I have been a constant advocate for better training, updated technology and resources for lawenforcement officers. I have campaigned for increased and balanced accountability of law enforcement for bothmanagers/administrators and the rank and file.
Why am I running for Vice President?
Within the past few years we have witnessed the DOC undergo dramatic changes. We have allowed our rights as Officers to be ignored.
We need an executive board that
·         Is proactive not reactive
·         Seeks solutions through negotiation
·         Speaks for and that is inclusive of ALL Corrections Officers.
·         Uses their influence and title for the  betterment of ALL members
As Vice President I will
·         Continue to fight for  and protect the rights of ALL Officers
·         Ensure that we are respected throughout our region
·         Help to develop legislation that will serve our best interests
This is your future and you should be sure of whom you’re voting for. Therefore, throughout this campaignI hope to meet, greet and shake the hand of every COBA member.
